LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Stjepan Cagalj will join the Cardinals in January, 2015.
"I think Stjepan will be challenging the starting lineup as soon as he arrives in January," said Ecarma. "He loves the game of tennis and I appreciate his sincerity in our conversations. He has a very supportive family and wants to play professionally after graduating UofL. He also wants to be the third UofL tennis star from Croatia following ITA nationally ranked players Tvrtko Kujundzic and Slavko Radman. The last player we signed from Split, Croatia, was Slavko Radman. In his three years at Louisville, he was the Conference USA Tournament and Big East Tournament Most Valuable Player and helped us win the HEB National Invitational, Big East Conference and host the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament."
Cagalj, a native of Split, Croatia, was a quarterfinalist in the Epition Cup and reached the round of 16 in the Wilson ITF Junior Classic in singles. In doubles, he was a finalist in the Mostar Open (Bosnia), a semifinalist in the Zetes Open (Belgium) and a quarterfinalist in the Aegon Junior International (England).
"I have tied my future to the University of Louisville and its tennis team," said Cagalj. "I am looking forward to playing under Coach Rex Ecarma and helping my new team reach new heights."
