LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Competing in its regular season home finale, the ninth-ranked Louisville men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against visiting SIU Edwardsville on Tuesday evening at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
"I'm disappointed in the result, but more disappointed in our overall energy tonight - our approach to the game," said Louisville head coach Ken Lolla. "In the end, it's probably a fair result because, quite honestly, we just didn't do enough to win it."
Tuesday's result was the second straight scoreless draw for the Cardinals (8-5-3), who also extended their unbeaten streak to five straight matches overall. Sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Brennan (Edwardsville, Ill.) made his first career start and needed just one save to lockup Louisville's third straight shutout and the sixth of the season.
"Daniel's been doing great in training and he's continued to improve. He's shown himself to be a guy who we can count on in situations like this, so we felt very comfortable with him being in goal," Lolla said of Brennan.
Louisville dominated the statistics finishing with a 15-4 advantage in shots, including a 4-1 edge on goal. The Cardinals also had a 5-1 cushion in corner kick chances but were unable to find the decisive goal needed as SIUE (4-7-3) goalkeeper Kent Kobernus turned away all four shots he faced.
Up next, the Cardinals will close the regular season with an ACC road match at Wake Forest on Saturday at 7 p.m., ET.
