LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Emily Haas and Laura Restrepo produced top-10 finishes and helped the University of Louisville women's golf team place fourth in the final standings on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Knoxville, Tenn.
The No. 19 Cardinals had a three-stroke lead at the end of the second day, but the team's 20-over-par 304 in the third round dropped them to fourth place. Louisville finished the tournament with a 32-over-par 884 at Cherokee Country Club.
Haas, who concluded the fall with her third top-five finish, registered a 2-over-par 73 to tie for fifth. Her 5-over-par 218 was just six strokes shy of the overall winner, South Carolina's Nanna Madsen. Haas registered one birdie through the first nine, but she had two bogeys on the back nine.
Restrepo notched her second top-10 finish of the season. She had a combined score of 7-over-par 220 following her third round 3-over-par 74. The junior started the day with a bogey, but rebounded with a birdie on No. 6. Her bogey on No. 9 put her at 1-over before making the turn. She landed three-consecutive pars to begin the back stretch, but after her birdie on 13, she hit a double bogey and then a bogey to give her a 2-over in the back nine.
Molly Skapik, after reaching as high as sixth in the standings after two rounds, achieved a double bogey on No. 1 - an early indication for what was to come. She tallied three more bogeys on the front nine before adding two more on the back nine and another double bogey. The freshman managed two birdies within five holes, tallying them on 11 and 15. Following her 7-over-par 78, her combined score of 10-over-par 223 put her back to a tie for 17th.
Rounding out the Cardinals' scoring, Katie Mitchell logged an 8-over-par 79.
Louisville also had two individuals competing at the tournament, Louise Oxner and Shannon Gramley.
Oxner registered a 2-over-par 73 and had the second-best overall score - 12-over-par 225 - of any individual. She finished in a six-way tie for 26th.
Louisville returns to action in February, opening its spring campaign at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla. The three-day event begins on Feb. 8 at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
