Hey Card Fans!
Thanks for tuning in to the U of L Volley Blog today, I am one of the five new additions to the team for this fall and couldn't be more excited! Today was the first day of our second set of double sessions for preseason and coming off a day off you'd think we'd be slow to start but that wasn't the case. We started off the morning practice like we'd been going for a week or so straight. The team chemistry was going, we were attacking drills, Katie George was cracking jokes as usual (hit or miss with her really but we laugh to make her feel good about herself) it was a great start to a productive day in the gym!
Every morning Zach Farrel, our strength coach, gives us a few words of wisdom to get through the day. Today he told us to "be where our feet are" and I think this set the tone for the rest of the day. We all gave maximum effort in every drill and every rep. If we felt that a certain rep didn't match the team standard we did it again. I don't know how many of you out there have ever willingly thrown your body on the ground with reckless abandon for a volleyball but let me tell you it's pretty painful. Luckily, your U of L Women's Volleyball team has accepted the well-known phrase "no pain no gain".
Speaking of pain how many of you out there reading this have suffered from blisters? Now I'm not talking about you wore some seven inch heels to an event and developed a few irritating cuts. I'm talking about huge, massive, completely unattractive blisters on your feet; like the size of half dollars, that even makes the training room staff say "ew." Get the picture? (Hopefully no one is eating while reading this, sorry!) Well a few of us have developed some pretty gnarly and raw blisters that have made walking around a lot of fun. Even more fun are our infamous ice baths where we pile in 15 girls and see who will cause it to overflow. Going further on in my rant on no pain no gain I personally haven't had anything remotely unhealthy since the start of preseason thanks to our strength coach Zach and am feeling great! Although passing McDonald's on our walk to and from Marshall Center has proven to be quite the temptation.
Getting back to preseason, your Volleyball team is working hard to not disappoint you Card Fans! We have an incredible group of girls and coaching staff and we're all on the same page. We are showing maximum effort in both sessions whether it's a simple drill or a rapid fire one. The raw athleticism and skill that this group has in truly incredible! We are maintaining healthy diets to keep up ourselves in tip top shape and can't wait to bring our excitement and hard work to the court in front of you guys. So please continue to be a part of our journey by reading the Volley Blog and checking out our team confessions, they are hilarious!
I hope to see all of you at the Yum! Center for our first home game to cheer us on, I'm Randi your Senior transfer Middle Blocker and hope you enjoyed this recap of our day.
Go Cards!
