Current and former members of the University of Louisville men's tennis team are recording impressive achievements in the summer of 2013. Rising sophomore Jeffrey Brown won the doubles title at the ITA Summer Circuit hosted by the University of Alabama, while alum Andrew Carter continued his professional career in the qualifying division of the Atlanta Open.
Brown teamed with Andrew Dromsky to win four straight matches in the title run. The duo defeated Josh Smith and Andrew Hill 8-2 in the round of 16 and topped Kevin Dong and Ataman Billor 8-5 in the quarterfinals. They went on to beat Tam Trinh and Jaryd Woog 8-2 in the semifinals and posted an 8-4 victory over Jess Jones and Andrew Goodwin in the championship match.
"Jeffrey is playing some great doubles and that can only be good for our team," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I always knew he had this capability and am fired up that he is proving it. I am hoping Jeff can anchor one of our doubles spots in the line-up and appreciate his commitment to his tennis game this summer."
Carter, a member of the senior class of 2012, fell 6-3, 6-1 to Robby Ginepri who has been ranked as high as No. 15 in the world and reached the semifinals of the 2005 US Open.
"I am so excited for Andrew Carter," said Ecarma. "The qualifying division of the $250,000 Atlanta Open is an official ATP Tour Event in which the likes of players like Andy Roddick normally plays."
