The University of Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer was selected as an alternate for the NCAA singles championship which will take place May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., following the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 16-21. Illinois, Champaign will serve as host.
Stiefelmeyer is the sixth of nine alternates who would compete should anyone in the field of 64 drop out prior to the start of play.
"Sebastian is so close to getting in outright," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Sebastian had two wins over the number 1 players of Oklahoma and VCU which the committee recognized. This would be a great honor and experience for him if he were to get in."
