LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville head coach Ken Lolla has announced details for the 2014 Louisville Coaching Symposium, an educational training course for youth, club, high school and college soccer coaches.
The 2014 Louisville Coaching Symposium is scheduled for Feb. 8-9 on the University of Louisville campus at the Trager Center (indoor practice facility) and Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Led by two-time National Coach of the Year and eighth year Louisville men's soccer head coach Ken Lolla, the course features on-field training demonstrations, tactical video analysis and keynote speeches on principles of success and personal development. Lolla, who has also served on the US National Team coaching staff, recently celebrated the Cardinals' 2013 American Athletic Conference regular season championship.
"Over the years, we've received many requests to put on a coaching symposium," said Lolla. "The symposium presents an opportunity to share our coaching philosophy and the technical and tactical principles that we have found to be successful in the game."
A variety of field training demonstrations are conducted using varying skills levels, with the University of Louisville men's soccer team serving as players for specific sessions, and local youth teams for others. Supplemented by a yet-to-be-announced US National Team staff member, the training will cover a variety of topics including attacking, defending, goalkeeping and transition play while being conducted in the state-of-the-art Trager Center.
"The symposium will be enhanced not only by our staff and the participation of our players, but also by the tremendous resources and world class facilities on the University of Louisville campus," said Lolla.
The curriculum of the symposium presents a demonstration of tactical video analysis using SportsCode and Prozone as well as lectures on training the mind of a soccer player, personal development, balance in coaching and principles of success.
"We have a tremendous resource in our video coordinator Doug Bruce, who recently joined our staff. Doug came to us after serving as video coordinator for Middlesbrough in the EPL (Barclay's English Premier League). His expertise with Prozone, scouting opposition and tactical analysis is very insightful and will be beneficial by our symposium participants."
At the end of the first day, participants and the staff will share an evening social and meal at the PNC Club at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The symposium staff will discuss various topics on coaching trends and current events in soccer locally, nationally and globally. The event concludes with a "town hall" style question and answer session to wrap-up the night.
"We found that the evening social has been a highlight for many of the participants in years past, as it facilitated a substantive and intriguing discussion on coaching, soccer and life in general," concluded Lolla. "We learn a lot from each other, and we look forward to sharing that experience again this year.
The cost of the symposium is $150 per registrant, with group rates available at $125 for five or more and $100 for 10 or more. The symposium is free for high school coaches who submit a deposit for the 2014 Summer High School Team Camp.
