
Women's Golf Wins the Cardinal Cup

Simpsonville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's golf team shot a 305 in the final round to capture the Cardinal Cup title with a score of 896. The Cardinals held on to defeat Missouri by one stroke at the annual tournament held at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville. It is the first time the Cardinals have won the tournament title since 2009.
The Missouri Tigers shot a 298 in the final round to finish second with a score of 897. Chattanooga finished third with a score of 901.
Sophomore Emily Haas set a tournament record and captured the tournament title with a score of 209. Haas shot a 71 in the final round to win the tournament by five strokes. UNC Greenboro's Fanny Cnops shot a 68 in the final round to finish second with a score of 214.
Sophomore Katie Petrino shot a 79 in the final round to finish tied at 18th with a score of 225. Junior Tara Lyons shot a 76 in the final round. Lyons finished tied at 27th with a score of 228.
Louisville's two freshmen Meghan Theiss and Laura Restrepo competed as individuals in their first action with the Cardinals. Both shot an 84 in the final round to finish tied at 33rd with a score of 230.
Senior Candice Wiley shot a 79 in the final round to finish tied at 45th with a score of 234. Sophomore Sara Karlsson shot an 85 in the final round to finish 78th with a score of 250.
Junior Maike Klein was the final Cardinal competing as an individual. Klein shot a 78 in the final round and finished tied at 64th with a score of 240.
The win marks the first win for Cardinal head coach Courtney Trimble. The Cardinals will be back in action on Oct. 1 at the Johnie Imes Invitational at Columbia, Mo.
