The Cardinals volleyball team is set to host the Louisville Tournament which will take place at the KFC Yum! Center on Sept. 14 and Sept. 15. The Cards will play host to Middle Tennessee State, UNLV, and Miami (Fla.).
First up for Louisville will be Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m., ET. The Blue Raiders will be entering the tournament with an overall record of 3-9 on the year. The schedule has been tough, but a 2012 top 30 ranked freshman class will look to improve upon their attack percentages to turn the tides this season. Chelsea Ross, a member of the highly regarded 2012 freshman class, will look to carry MTSU throughout the weekend as she has led the team this season in kills with 177 and is second on the team in digs with 103. Ashley Adams will look to balance the attack for the Blue Raiders as she has totaled 144 kills on the season.
On Sept. 15 the Cardinals will first face UNLV at 11:00 a.m., ET at the KFC Yum! Center. The Rebels will come to Louisville with an overall record of 6-3 on the season and some momentum behind them after they swept Gonzaga, Texas Southern, and Prairie View A&M to win the UNLV Classic. Daryn Glenn, Stephanie Thelen, Madeline Westman, and Candice Thomas will all provide a very balanced attack for the Rebels this weekend as they have contributed to the total number of kills for UNLV in an equal fashion this season. Madeline Westman and Candice Thomas will also lead the Rebels on defense as they lead the team in blocks with 1.47 and 1.19 per set respectively. Kinsey Caldwell will look to set up her teammates on the attack as she has recorded a team high 329 assists on the season thus far.
Last up for the Cards will be Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m., ET. The Hurricanes will enter the tournament this weekend with an overall record of 7-1 and will be looking to improve that record in the pursuit of a place in the nation's Top 25 teams. In the latest poll the Hurricanes came in at No. 26 and were only eight votes shy of the 25th spot. Miami most recently took down then No. 6 Florida State and for her performance in the match Alex Johnson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week. On the Season, Johnson, who has started every match in her career, has racked up 95 kills (3.17 k/s) for a .333 hitting percentage and she has also registered four double-doubles in eight matches with 86 total digs (2.87 d/s) on the year. Taylor Hollins will look to provide balance to the attack, as she has totaled 114 kills this year. Nrithya Sundararaman leads the team in assists with 330 on the year and should be putting her teammates in the right places to score this weekend.
The Cardinals will return to the KFC Yum! Center on Sept. 21 for a match against DePaul University at 7:00 p.m., ET.
