September 10, 2012 | Women's Volleyball
The University of Louisville women's volleyball team has moved up in the AVCA rankings to No. 12 in the nation after today's AVCA poll was released. The Cardinals move 12 spots after being ranked No. 24 in the country for the last week.
Louisville added two wins against teams in the top 20 this weekend, which led to the increase in votes in the AVCA poll from 216 last week to 710 this week. The two wins included a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23) sweep of then No. 11 Purdue and a 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-9) route of then No. 20 Illinois. Previously, the Cards achieved a win against then No. 10 Kentucky. Louisville was all but assured to move up in the rankings with an overall record of 8-1 to go in hand with three wins against teams ranked in the top 20. The lone loss for the Cardinals came at the hands of No. 4 Penn State.
Coming up next for the Cards will be the Louisville tournament on Sept. 14 and Sept. 15 at the KFC Yum! Center. On Sept. 14 the Cardinals will face Middle Tennessee State at 7:30 p.m., ET. Then on Sept. 15 Louisville will play host to UNLV at 11:00 a.m., ET and Miami (Fla.) at 7:30 p.m., ET.
