LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team will face Presbyterian on a neutral site in Cumming, Ga., on Saturday, March 10. First draw is set to be at 1 p.m. at West Forsyth High School.
The Cardinals (1-3), who will serve as the home team, are looking to bounce back after losing consecutive games, most recently to top-ranked Northwestern, 16-7. U of L got off to a slow start against the Wildcats in the first half, but showed strong defense in the second, holding the 17th-best scoring offense to only five goals in the period. Senior Eleni Kozas led Louisville in scoring with three goals, while sophomore Jamie Redding contributed two goals as well as two assists. The Cardinals gathered 20 ground balls against the Wildcats and also won 11 draw controls.
Presbyterian (1-4) dropped its last game as well, falling to Saint Joseph's, 17-3. Sophomore Kelsey Rupsch had two goals for the Blue Hose, and senior Laura Meade collected two ground balls and three draw controls. St. Joseph's outshot Presbyterian, 32-17, and won the ground ball battle, 20-11.
Currently, Catherine Ellis has a team-best 11 goals this year and is tied with Kirstin Stenoien for a team-high 15 points. Three different goalies have played this season, with Samantha Arey (120 minutes, 17 saves, 0-1) playing the most minutes.
Julie Redman is entering her first season as head coach for Presbyterian. Last year, the Blue Hose finished with a record of 5-13, while going 2-5 in the National Lacrosse Conference. Redman has five seniors on this year's squad after having none last year and brought in nine newcomers.
