Gisselle Kohoyda, Tanja Kylliainen and Fanny Lilliestrom have been invited the 2012 NCAA Championship, making the cut for the March 15-17 meet to be held in Auburn, Ala.
"We, as a program, are thrilled for these three young ladies," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "They are a part of a small, select group of swimmers who get the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championship. They are performing at their best at the moment, and they are preparing to surprise the field. I believe their best performances are coming. They will proudly be representing our entire women's program. We are also hoping to add a diver to the invited list."
Gisselle Kohoyda punched her ticket at the BIG EAST Championship when she put up a 2:07.69 in the 200-breast to win the BIG EAST, beating the A-time mark by almost two seconds. She also qualified in the 100-breast with a time of 1:00.20.
Tanja Kylliainen qualified in the 400-IM with a time of 4:10.40 which she won at BIG EAST, finishing almost five seconds ahead of the field. She also qualified in the 200-fly with a time of 1:55.22.
Fanny Lilliestrom earned her way in the hard way after putting up a gutty time of 2:10.90 in the 200-breast. The senior put that mark up at the Last Chance Meet last weekend at Ohio State.
The Cardinals are hoping to add divers Hannah Gadd, Lindsey Stephens, and Emily Stalmack should they emerge from the NCAA Zone qualifying meet. Gadd became the first U of L diver to make the NCAA Finals a year ago.
