PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - Freshman Sebastian Stiefelmeyer was named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 28. This is the second weekly honor for Stiefelmeyer.
"I am so pleased that the Big East acknowledged Sebastian again," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Winning at No. 1 singles is difficult, especially against ranked teams. He is developing well and is a pleasure to coach."
Stiefelmeyer recorded two wins on the week as the Cardinals took down a top-50 team in No. 41 Wake Forest on Feb. 25. Playing at the No. 1 singles position, he posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Wake's David Hopkins. Stiefelmeyer also teamed with senior Robert Hall to clinch the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Sam Wells and Conner Sherwood at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, he improved to 17-6 overall and 8-2 in dual matches while he and Hall improved to 4-3 on the season. The win was the fourth in a row for the Cardinals who advanced to 8-4 on the season.
The Cardinals are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 29 when Northwestern (7-3) visits the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center for a 5 p.m. matchup.
