University of Louisville volleyball signee Katie George was named the National Volleyball Player of the Year by PrepVolleyball.com.
George, an Assumption senior, helped the Rockets win their second straight state title and 16th overall last October. The 5-10 setter posted team highs in assists (683) and aces (75) and added nearly 200 digs and more than 100 kills.
The Rockets (43-1) finished the season ranked No. 3 nationally by PrepVolleyball.com
"She was the cement, the driver of our bus," Rockets coach Ron Kordes said. "I don't think people realize how important a kid like that is. She had everybody's respect. There were times that I turned the huddle over to her. You'd see the kids' eyes when she talked. They believed in her."
Back in November, she was also been named Kentucky's 2011 Miss Volleyball by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association as well as the Gatorade Player of the Year.
George had 11 assists, two aces and one kill as the Rockets beat Greenwood 25-13, 25-18 in the state championship match at Bellarmine University's Knights Hall.
