LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's basketball team plans on utilizing sophomore Kevin Ware's athletic ability and length during the 2012-13 season.
After Ware joined the Cardinals in the spring semester last season, his length was used heavily on the defensive end. In a game against Marquette on Jan. 16, less than a month of wearing the Red and Black, he had two steals in five minutes.
Louisville's head coach Rick Pitino was very high on his expectations then, describing him as "very fast, very quick, and a very good athlete with tremendous talent, who will help us at point guard."
Those expectations have only risen this season. Pitino believes Ware is "the most improved player from last year's team" and "one of three (Ware, Peyton Siva, and Luke Hancock) who have really stuck out in practice and been consistent on both ends of the floor."
Being consistent was a question in the past, but Ware has fixed those problems judging from the three Red-White scrimmages. In the first scrimmage, he played 38 minutes, totaling 11 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, four steals, two blocks, and only one turnover.
He backed up that performance with a solid showing in the second scrimmage, having 22 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals in 39 minutes.
UofLsports.com sat down with the Bronx N.Y. native at Media Day on Oct. 21, and he spoke about what he has done in the offseason to improve.
