Tingle's Titanium Clinches Pizza Bowl with Game Three Win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Fueled by an impressive offensive performance, Tingle's Titanium clinched the Louisville baseball program's seventh annual Pizza Bowl series with an 18-4 victory over Cheese's Chosen on Saturday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Titanium, coached by former Cardinal pitcher Travis Tingle, won Wednesday's series-opener before dropping game two on Friday to setup the winner-take-all finale with the Chosen, directed by Louisville volunteer assistant coach Kyle Cheesebrough. The annual intrasquad scrimmage series completed the Cardinals' full-squad fall workouts.
In Saturday's clinching game, sophomore outfielder Mike White (East Orange, N.J./Salisbury HS) paced the Titanium offense going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, while sophomore catcher Aaron Gershenfeld (Champaign, Ill./Cushing Academy) was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs. Freshman third baseman Danny Rosenbaum (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and sophomore infielder Sutton Whiting (Louisville, Ky./Ballard HS) was 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and two runs. Junior outfielder Cole Sturgeon (Owensboro, Ky./Owensboro Catholic HS) added a hit, four RBI and a run scored, while junior catcher Shane Crain (Lexington, Ky./Wabash Valley CC) chipped in with a triple, three RBI and two runs.
On the mound for the Titanium, junior right-hander Dace Kime (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance HS) earned the win after allowing two runs on two hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work. After freshman righty Michael Bollmer (Lexington, Ky./Bryan Station HS) pitched two innings out of the bullpen, Sturgeon closed the game with a perfect inning of relief.
For the Chosen, sophomore infielder Zach Lucas (Louisville, Ky./Butler HS) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while junior outfielder Adam Engel (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland HS), junior outfielder Jeff Gardner (Louisville, Ky./Whitefield Academy) and senior first baseman Zak Wasserman (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore HS) each had an RBI in the loss.
The Cardinals will resume full-squad preparations for the 2013 season on Jan. 25, while the opening weekend for Louisville in 2013 is set for Feb. 15-17. The Cardinals' complete 2013 schedule is expected to be released later this month.

Louisville, which won its third BIG EAST regular season title in the last four seasons in 2012, is led by the return of seven of its school record 10 All-BIG EAST performers from last season, including second team outfielders Adam Engel and Cole Sturgeon. Overall, Louisville returns 21 letterwinners from the 2012 team, which finished 41-22 and advanced to an NCAA Regional for the fifth time in six seasons.

In his six previous seasons, McDonnell is 258-122 with three BIG EAST regular-season titles, two BIG EAST Tournament titles, five NCAA Regional berths, two NCAA Super Regional appearances and one College World Series berth.
