LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Luis Elizondo will continue his career with the Cardinals. He will be immediately eligible to compete in the 2012 season.
"I am very pleased to have Luis Elizondo on the team," said Ecarma. "He is the sixth player of one of the best freshman classes in the country. He adds talent and experience to our team and will challenge for a starting spot right away. He is a classy young person from a very supportive family and I'm glad that they will be part of the Cardinal Tennis family. Luis has a great personality and will fit in well. This freshman class reminds me a lot of the U of L football freshmen, because they bring a lot talent to the team and we will rely on these young guys to learn how to succeed."
Elizondo was No. 280 in the world junior rankings and was a singles finalist in the Copa Mangu ITF Tournament, the Copa Coqui and the Copa Merengue Tournaments. He also reached the doubles finals of the Copa Coqui and TIHTA ITF Tournaments. Elizondo qualified for the main draw of the Orange Bowl World and the Copa Mundo Maya Championships. He also was a quarterfinalist in the Panama Bowl.
The Cardinals will open the 2012 dual match season on Jan. 19 when they play host to Austin Peay and Xavier at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
