
Louisville Women's Soccer Summer Recap

This summer, many of the Louisville women's soccer players kept their game sharp by playing with some of the nation's top W-League and WPSL teams in their hometowns and surrounding cities of Louisville.
Courtney Holtz, Chelsea Hunter and Katie McDonald played on the newly formed Indiana United of the WPSL. Holtz and Hunter started four games each while McDonald started in five and recorded one goal. Indiana United finished third in the Midwest South division of the WPSL.
Sophomore Jordan Pawlik played in her hometown for the Fort Wayne Fever where she started four games and tallied three goals with one assist. The Fever finished fourth in the Midwest South division of the WPSL.
Emily Cardell started in one game for OP Elite and scored one goal before suffering an injury. Incoming freshman Erin Yenney joined Cardell on OP Elite for two games and tallied one goal. OP Elite finished at the top of the Midwest South division of the WPSL.
Senior transfer goalkeeper Kassandra Young spent her summer playing for the Minnesota Kings. Young played in six games and recorded a clean sheet in all six matches. The Kings finished fourth in the Midwest North division of the WPSL.
In the W-League of the USL, the Canadian members of the Cardinals split into two teams. Sophomores Christine Exeter, Rachel Melhado and Nicole Mitchell and incoming Freshman Zakiya McIntosh played for the Toronto Lady Lynx, who finished fourth in the Great Lakes Division. Exeter racked up five goals and two assists, McIntosh scored two goals and Mitchell added an assist. Melhado started all 12 games at the center of the back and played 1,047 minutes this season. Fellow Canadian Angelika Uremovich played with the Hamilton Rage for Coach Joe Moscato, brother of former Cardinal assistant coach and current Team Canada player Carmelina Moscato. Uremovich started in 11 games and recorded two goals and two assists. Uremovich was also named team MVP.
Incoming freshmen Casey Whitfield and Hannah Konermann played with their Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club team and advanced to the Region 2 Championships. This marked the first time in the history of Kentucky youth soccer that a girls team from Louisville advanced to the Region 2 Championships.
