
Softball Tops Georgetown 8-1

WASHINGTON D.C. - Freshman Taner Fowler went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and junior Kristin Austin was 2-for-3 with four runs as the University of Louisville softball team defeated host Georgetown 8-1 Wednesday afternoon. After the first game was delayed two hours because of rain, the Cards were leading 3-1 in the fourth inning of the second game when it was called due to time constraints for travel. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the second when Alicja Wolny led off the frame with a single and back-to-back errors put Maggie Ruckenbrod and Kristin Austin on for Hannah Kiyohara's two-run single.
Louisville increased the lead to 3-0 in the third when Chelsea Bemis was hit by a pitch and scored on Wolny's single.
The Hoyas got on the scoreboard in the home half of the third when Kelly Cianciotta doubled. Elyse Graziano entered the game to run and took third on a wild pitch. Regan Page's RBI single made the score 3-1.
The Cards got the run back in the fourth when Taner Fowler's RBI single plated Kristin who had reached on an infield hit, stole second and took third on a passed ball.
U of L added to the lead with two runs in the sixth when Kristin Austin registered a leadoff single, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Fowler's double. Kiyohara singled and Keller reached on an error. Jennifer Esteban's infield single loaded the bases. A wild pitch sent Kiyohara home to make the score 6-1.
The Cardinals tacked on a pair of runs behind Fowler's RBI double and Keller's sacrifice fly in the seventh. Wolny connected on a leadoff single and came around to score on Fowler's second double of the game. Keller's sacrifice fly plated Austin who had been hit by a pitch and moved to third on Fowler's double.
Tori Collins (14-6) got the win, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six in seven innings. Kiyohara was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Mackensey Carter (10-20) took the loss, allowing six runs, two earned, on 10 hits and striking out three in 5.1 innings. Carter also led the Hoyas with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
The Cardinals will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series at Syracuse this weekend.
