PALO ALTO, Calif. - - The University of Louisville's Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk fell 6-3, 6-2 to Florida's 17th ranked Sekou Bangoura and Alexandre Lacroix in the NCAA Doubles quarterfinals Saturday at Stanford.
Seniors Childs and Maksimcuk wrap up their senior season with a 19-10 overall record and became the first U of L players to reach the NCAA doubles quarterfinals, thus earning All-American status.
"For the first time this tournament a team responded and counterpunched our big shots and offense," said Maksimcuk. "It's been a great four years and I'm going to miss it."
"Florida made a lot of returns which put too much pressure on our service games. I'm sad that this is the last college match that I will ever play."
"We tested Lacroix's returns and he came back with monster shots," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Bangoura's volleys also handle the pounding we gave it. I give them a lot of credit. The `Fabulous Four's' U of L careers are officially over. I already miss them.
