LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Senior Viktor Maksimcuk was named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending April 19.
"I am happy for Viktor because he really performed well against Indiana," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "His opponent, Josh McTaggart is a nationally ranked player who is extremely strong mentally and a tough person to play. He and Simon were very business-like in doubles as well. Vik has practiced with a purpose this past week and a half and his results and this award were his reward."
Maksimcuk helped the Cardinals climb from No. 32 to No. 29 in the ITA Tennis Rankings after upsetting then-No. 23 Indiana 6-1 April 17. The 103rd-ranked singles player downed Indiana's 114th-ranked Josh MacTaggart 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Maksimcuk paired with senior Simon Childs to beat the Hoosier duo of Santiago Gruter and Jeremy Langer 8-3 in the No. 1 position, clinching the doubles point. The UofL seniors are ranked 56th as a doubles team.
