
Softball Defeats Tulsa 4-1

AUSTIN, Texas - - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Tulsa 4-1 Saturday afternoon in the Texas Invitational. The Cards (2-1) and the Golden Hurricane (1-2) will meet again in the tournament semifinals Saturday at 5 p.m. (Eastern).
The game featured a pitcher's duel with only one hit being surrendered through three innings of play before the Cards put up a three-spot in the top of the fourth. Jennifer Esteban's leadoff single was the catalyst for the Cardinal offense. A wild pitch sent her to second and she took third on Maggie Ruckenbrod's groundout. Alicja Wolny was hit by a pitch and stole second, Esteban scored on a wild pitch to put the Cards on the board. Jordan Trimble's single plated Wolny and she came around to score on a double by Chelsea Bemis to make it a 3-0 game.
The Cards added another run in the fifth when Esteban reached on a bunt single, took second on Ruckenbrod's base hit and Wolny delivered an RBI single to increase the lead to 4-0.
Tulsa got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when Skylar Swanson drew a leadoff walk and Jill Everett followed with a single. Samantha Cobb's RBI single scored pinch runner Shelby Blanton to make it a 4-1 game.
Chelsea Leonard (1-0) got the win, allowing one earned run on two hits and striking out 10 in five innings. She had a perfect game going through four innings before a leadoff walk in the fifth broke it up. Caralisa Connell was strong in relief, holding the Golden Hurricane to one hit and striking out three en route to her first career save
Esteban and Wolny each had a pair of hits as the Cards tallied eight in the contest.
Lacey Middlebrooks (0-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and striking out two in five innings.
