The University of Louisville women's swimming and diving contingent finished in 4th place after the second and final day at the annual SMU Swim Classic at the Perkins Natatorium on the SMU campus. The two-day event featured six nationally-ranked swim teams from six different conferences; No. 6 Texas (Big 12), No. 7 Florida (SEC), No. 11 Wisconsin (Big 10), No. 13 UVA (ACC), No. 36 SMU (C-USA) and No. 40 Louisville (BIG EAST).
The Cardinals finished fourth with a score of 256.50, just a half point behind SMU, while the University of Texas took top honors followed by the University of Florida who occupied second place.
The top performance of the day went to junior Hannah Gadd who took top honors in the 3m dive with a high score of 302.90. Fanny Lilliestrom also bolstered a strong performance with a third place finish in the 200-breast A-final with a time of 2:15.50. The 200 Medley Relay team, lead by Krissie Brandenburg who had the second fastest split in her field with a time of 26.51, finished fourth in the A-final with a time of 1:44.72.
Other A-final finishes included Eszter Povazsay's fourth place finish in the 200-back (2:00.28), Victoria Mitchell's fifth place finish in the 500-free (4:50.77), and Dani Barbiea's fifth place finish in the 100-free (51.48).
Some notable B-final finishes include Abbey Chin with a ninth place finish in the 500-free (4:54.93), and Aileen Cole's tenth place finish in the 100-free (52.07).
The Classic is an unusual format for college swimming. The SMU Classic showcases the strongest and most versatile swimmers of each program. Due to its' design, competing teams must have a representative in each race, however, squads are limited to only eight swimmers and one diver for the entire meet. The SMU Classic provides a rare opportunity to witness high-level competition in the intimate setting of Perkins Natatorium, one of the last six-lane pools in the NCAA.
