
Swimming and Diving Edged by Tennessee

Despite winning six events including the final relay, the University of Louisville swimming and diving teams fell to visiting University of Tennessee with the men falling 163-137 and the women falling 183-117 Thursday afternoon at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
"While I am disappointed in the outcome, I am proud of the effort all around," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "We learned a lot about our team and how we need to move forward. We have a better sense of where we are, where we need to be and where we should be. We raced hard but fell short in a couple of places. We will just go to work to get better."
Joao De Lucca won the 200-free and the 100-free. Other wins for the men included Brendon Andrews (100-back) and Pedro Oliveira (200-fly). Fanny Lilliestrom took first in the 200-breast for the women. The final 400-free relay was a Cardinal winner with Andrews, De Lucca, Samuel Hoekstra and Albert Lloyd taking top honors.
Cardinal diver Hannah Gadd was edged by two points to finish second in the 1-meter event with a score of 293.15. Nikolas Sachs was the top Cardinal diver for the men on the 3-meter board, posting a score of 283.43.
The foursome of Krissie Brandenburg (26.49), Lindsay Rogers (28.15), Raine Thompson (24.20) and Aileen Cole (22.79) combined to post a time of 1:41.63, with Tennessee's A-relay touching in 1:41.12 for the win. The men's team of Brendon Andrews (22.56), Kameron Chastain (25.15), Tim Collin (22.24) and Matt Schlytter (20.25) touched second in 1:30.20.
Freshman Victoria Mitchell touched second in the grueling 1000-free with a time of 10:01.01 behind UT's Lindsay Gendron's pool record setting time of 9:49.09. The Cardinals finished two-three-four in the men's 1000 led by Pedro Oliveira's 9:19.94 followed by Charlie Bolgan's 9:26.62 and Riley Martin 9:26.73.
In a quick turnaround after the 1000-free, Gendron touched first in the 200-free for Tennessee in 1:48.55 but U of L sophomore Breann McDowell's 1:51.32 was good for second place. For the men, Joao De Lucca was first in 1:38.12. Albert Lloyd added points with a third place time of 1:40.77 and Alex Burtch touched fourth in 1:41.07.
Eszter Povazsay was second in the 100-back with a time of 55.59 to be the top finisher for the Cards. Brendon Andrews lunged to the wall for the win for the men with a time of 48.75, just two one-hundreths of a second ahead of Tennessee's Ricky Henahan.
In the 100-breast, U of L's Lindsay Rogers was second with a time of 1:03.89, behind UT's Molly Hannis' 1:02.67 B-cut win. Cardinal senior Fanny Lilliestrom was third with a time of 1:04.29. Gisselle Kohoyda was fourth with a time of 1:04.54. The men had a blazing heat with UT's Renato Prono (54.28) touching just ahead of U of L senior Carlos Almeida's 54.36, both NCAA B-cuts.
In the 200-fly, UT's Kelsey Floyd went 1:59.92 with Cardinal Tanja Kylliainen touching second in 2:01.02. Abby Chin was third in 2:01.46. Pedro Oliveira won the men's 200-fly cruising in at 1:48.40 for the Cards. Junior Michael Pryor finished strong for second with a time of 1:52.15.
Aileen Cole dueled UT's Caroline Simmons with Simmons posting a 23.53 in the 50-free for the win with Cole in her wake at 23.56. Dani Barbiea was third in 23.68. In the men's 50-free, UT's Ed Walsh touched just four one-hundreths ahead of Brendon Andrews with a winning time of 20.78. Andrews went 20.82 and Samuel Hoekstra was third in 20.86.
In the women's 100-free Dani Barbiea was second in 51.34 behind UT's Alex Frasier's 50.85. For the men, Joao Delucca took the race in 45.23 and teammate Albert Lloyd was fourth in 46.02. Samuel Hoekstra was fifth at 46.20.
Fanny Lilliestrom made an NCAA B-cut with a win in the 200-breast, putting up a time of 2:16.08 just ahead of Gisselle Kohoyda's 2:16.23. Carlos Almeida was outtouched in the duel for the men's 200-breast when Jake Epperson went 2:00.01 with Almeida boarding a 2:00.35. Kenny Crapse was third in 2:05.44.
In the 200 back,UT's Jenny Connolly was first in 2:00.09, ahead of Cardinal Eszter Povazsay, who was second in 2:00.11. U of L's Krissie Brandenburg was fourth in 2:05.88. Pedro Oliveira powered to a first in the men's 200-back in 1:47.02, nearly three full seconds ahead of the field for the Cardinals. Teammate Juan Lopez squeezed in second with a time of 1:50.30.
In women's 3-meter diving, Cardinal freshman Emily Stalmack was third 287.10 ahead of teammate Hannah Gadd's 282.00. Nikolas Sachs was the top U of L finisher for the men in the 1-meter diving with a score of 256.95 scoring fourth place points.
In the women's 500-free, Lindsay Gendron made it a hat trick with a win in 4:50.54 but Cardinal freshman Victoria Mitchell was second for the Cardinals in 4:52.54 and teammate Abby Chin was third in 4:59.64 and Lindsey LaPorte was fourth in 5:06.20. Riley Martin was the top Cardinal finisher in the men's event going 4:33.80 for a third palce finish. Michael Pryor was fourth in 4:36.25.
In the women's 100-fly, Raine Thompson was third in 55.84 with Jackie Sherrard touching fourth in 57.31 and Dani Barbiea touching fifth in 57.52. U of L Tim Collins was 50.52 for fourth as the top Cardinal in the event.
In the 200-IM, Kelsey Floyd took top honors for Tennessee, going 2:03.16 just ahead of Tanja Kylliainen's 2:03.55. Fanny Lilliestrom took third in 2:04.50. For the men, Carlos Almeida (1:51.21) was outtouched by Jake Epperson's 1:50..19 in the 200-IM. Alex Burtch was fourth, boarding a 1:53.22.
In the 400-free relay, the foursome of Aileen Cole, Eszter Povazsay, Breann McDowell and Dani Barbiea went 3:26.60 to touch second. The men took the 400-free relay in 3:00.43 when the team of Brendon Andrews, Joao De Lucca, Samuel Hoekstra and Albert Lloyd combined to post a 3:00.43 for an NCAA B-cut time.
