KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - - University of Louisville senior Andrew Carter has advanced to the quarterfinals of the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles main draw.
"I'm so proud of Andrew for making the final eight of the 128 best players in the Ohio Valley Region which consists of many conferences," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "He is playing mentally tough and closing out matches in a textbook way. The development of his all-court game has been critical to his success. His attitude has been positive and emotions balanced."
Carter defeated Tennessee's Hunter Reese 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16 to reach Sunday's quarterfinals where he will face Kentucky's Eric Quigley.
Freshman Michael Lippens fell 6-3, 6-4 to Kentucky's Anthony Rossi in the round of eight.
The doubles team of Carter and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer lost 8-5 to Kentucky's Quigley and Alex Musialek in the doubles round of eight.
