MUNCIE, Ind. - - Freshman Michael Lippens advanced to the semifinals of the Ball State Invitational Flight `A' singles and teamed with senior Sumit Gupta to reach the `A' doubles finals.
"Michael continues to be on a tear, making his third semifinals in a row," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "He works extra on his fitness and it pays off as the tournament proceeds.
Lippens won three matches in straight sets to advance to the semifinals where he will face Duquesne's Pete Carpenter on Sunday morning.
Gupta and Lippens also picked up three doubles wins over teams from IUPUI, Butler and Northern Illinois to set up a final against BIG EAST Conference opponents Octavio Perim and James Stark of Marquette.
"Sumit and Michael look like a veteran doubles team even though this is their first time playing together," said Ecarma. "When one is down, the other picks it up. I am excited about their final as Michael goes for his first doubles title and Sumit his second."
