Cardinals Complete First Day of Lake Natoma Invitational

GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The University of Louisville rowing team completed the first day of racing at the Lake Natoma Invitational in sixth place in the team standings after three runner-up finishes during the first two sessions.
Overall, No. 2 California leads the way in the team standings with 36 points, while No. 3 Stanford and No. 13 Washington State are tied for second with 32 points each. No. 14 Wisconsin is fourth with 29 points, followed by No. 17 Tennessee with 25 points, Louisville with 20 points, Minnesota with 17, Sacramento State with 13 and Texas with 12.
During Saturday's morning session, Louisville earned a pair of second place finishes in its varsity eight and second varsity eight flights. The Cardinals' varsity eight crew finished with a time of 6:43.10 in Flight 1 to finish second overall, while Cal led the way at 6:24.20 and Sacramento State was third at 6:48.30.
In 2V8+ Flight 2, Louisville earned a time of 6:53.57 to trail California at 6:33.56 and lead Sacramento State at 6:59.26. In Flight 1 of the varsity four event, Louisville earned a time of 8:09.30 to trail first place Cal at 7:22.70 and second place Sacramento State at 7:51.10.
During Saturday's afternoon session, the Cardinals' varsity eight boat finished second in Flight 2 with a time of 7:04.30, while Stanford led the way with a time of 6:52.00. Minnesota was third with a time of 7:05.21.
In the second flight of the second varsity eight racing, Stanford earned the win with a time of 6:55.30, while Minnesota was second at 7:06.84 and Louisville was third at 7:16.76. And in Flight 2 of the varsity four event, Minnesota earned the win with a time of 7:42.60, while Stanford (7:45.07) and Louisville (8:29.44) finished second and third respectively.
Sunday's final session of racing at the Lake Natoma Invitational is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET, while the Awards Ceremony is set for 1:15 p.m. ET.
After the final day of racing on Lake Natoma on Sunday, the Louisville rowing team will travel to Worchester, Mass., for the BIG EAST Conference Championships on April 25.
