2010 BIG EAST Rowing Championships Race-by-Race Results in PDF Format
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Louisville rowing team earned a fourth-place finish in Sunday's 2010 BIG EAST Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond, while three Cardinals earned All-BIG EAST honors.
The Cardinals scored 80 total points to finish 10 points clear of fifth-place Connecticut, while Notre Dame led the way with 121 points. Georgetown was second with 93 points and Syracuse was third with 84 points. West Virginia finished sixth with 63 points, Rutgers was seventh with 54 points and Villanova was eighth with 36 points.
Individually, Louisville freshman Erin Bennett was named First Team All-BIG EAST, while seniors Ashley Edwardson and Samantha Seldon earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors.
Louisville's varsity eight crew of coxswain Edwardson, Lauren Mensch, Bennett, Katie Rorer, Kristin Falovo, Sarah Fiske, Sam Kayser, Anastasia Prokopenko and Seldon finished second overall with a time of 7 minutes, 23.621 seconds, while Notre Dame led the way with a time of 7:17.587. Syracuse was third at 7:28.766, while Rutgers was fourth at 7:32.068.
The Cardinals second varsity eight crew of coxswain Ellen Fawcett, Katie Scordo, Kelly Traynor, Chelsea Haack, Lina Azarova, Cara Littleton, Kira Lawson, Chelsea Coorts and Catherine Chivers earned a third-place finish with a time of 7:31.798, while Notre Dame earned the victory at 7:21.397. Georgetown narrowly defeated Louisville for second place with a time of 7:30.332, while Syracuse was fourth at 7:32.219.
Louisville's novice eight crew of coxswain Chloe Lozano, Kathleen O'Connell, Jamie Collins, Rebecca Smith, Kylie Wrenn, Katy Congleton, Allison Dukes, Isabelle Gottschalk and Angela Gregorio finished fifth overall with a time of 8:03.654, while the Fighting Irish led the way at 7:32.732. UConn was second at 7:39.961 and was trailed by third place Georgetown (7:53.835) and fourth place West Virginia (8:02.346).
In the varsity four event, the Cardinals' crew of coxswain Tara McKiernan, Kayla Kroninger, Lauren Proctor-Brown, Mallorie Campbell and Ruthie Fligor finished seventh overall after a time of 8:26.765 in the second heat race of the day. Notre Dame earned the V4+ win with a time of 7:56.782, while Georgetown was second at 8:06.158.
Up next, the Louisville rowing team will have two weeks off from competition in preparation for the NCAA South/Central Regionals on May 15-16 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
