
Softball Falls to No. 8 Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The No. 14/17 University of Louisville softball team fell to No. 8/11 Oklahoma 10-2 Saturday night in the final game of the the Preview featuring Bedlam Tournament at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
The teams played through three scoreless innings before the Sooners jumped on the scoreboard with five runs in the top of the fourth. Lindsey Vandever led off with a walk to set up Karolyne Long's two-run homer. Brianna Turang beat the throw on an infield single and Amber Flores was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on an illegal pitch and scored on a hit by Jessica Shults. Haley Nix connected on an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when Chelsea Bemis singled and moved to third on Colby Wherry's double. Two outs later, Bemis came home when Kristin Austin reached on an error. Pinch-runner Chelsea Jordan crossed the plate on a single by Jordan Trimble to make it a 5-2 game.
Nix's three run homer in the sixth increased OU's lead to 8-2. Flores and Jessica Shults delivered back-to-back hits to set up the three-run shot.
Turang and Shults connected on two-out solo home runs in the seventh to make it a 10-2 game.
Kristen Wadwell (5-3) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits and striking out two in seven innings. Wherry and Trimble each had a pair of hits for the Cards.
Keilani Ricketts (9-2) got the win, holding Louisville scoreless and allowing only one hit in four innings of relief. Vandever was 3 for 4 while Nix was 2 for 3 with four RBI. The Sooners improve to 14-3.
U of L (14-4) and Oklahoma will meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. in Norman.
