
Gadd Finishes as 3-meter Runnerup at BIG EAST Championship

Louisville freshman diver Hannah Gadd was barely denied a sweep as she was edged by by Notre Dame's ]Jenny Chiang on day two of the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa., Chiang took the top spot in the 3-meter diving final holding off Gadd, the 1-meter diving champion, by a margin of 12.7.
2009 Most Outstanding Diver Natalie Stitt held the lead after the trials with a mark of 299.10. Gadd anchored second at 285.70 while Notre Dame's Heidi Grossman came in third with a score of 276.65. Chiang found herself in fifth after qualifying at 259.60.
It was in the finals where Chiang made her move, improving her score by over 50 points to finish with a mark of 313.35. Gadd, Stitt, and Grossman finished second, third and fourth respectively, while Louisville's Kayla Purkiser rounded out the top five.
U of L got point production from Kayla Purkiser, who finished fifth and Lindsay Stephens was ninth. In all, U of L scored 82 points in diving, bested by only Notre Dame's 97.
The final day of diving events concludes tomorrow, Feb. 14 in Pittsburgh, Pa., at Trees Pool.
In men's prelims, Korey Schrock was 13th, Scott Sargent was 16th and David Zamkov was 17th.
