TULSA, Okla. - - University of Louisville senior Austen Childs advanced to the quarterfinals of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championship Friday. Childs, No. 10 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason singles rankings, defeated Tennessee's Mateo Fago 6-2, 6-2 in the third round.
"Austen adds yet another milestone to his stellar Louisville career by being the first Cardinal tennis player to reach the quarterfinal round of the prestigious ITA All-American Champions. He is such a workhorse. Today his fitness came through. Fago has been playing great, but he tired out as Austen used several different types of shots today, but mainly played physically and mentally tough."
Childs will play Stanford's Bradley Klahn in the quarterfinals Saturday in a rematch of the 2010 NCAA singles championship. In their last meeting, Klahn ended Childs' stellar run with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to claim the NCAA title.
