Men's Tennis Continues Strong Play at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS - - The 20th ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up five singles wins and swept all three doubles matches against host UNLV Saturday in the UNLV Men's Spring Invitational.
The Cardinals got singles wins from juniors Simon Childs and Alejandro Calligari, sophomores Andrew Carter and Robert Hall and freshman Chidi Gabriel. The teams of Simon Childs and Maksimcuk, Hall and Calligari and Austen Childs and Gabriel were also victorious for the Cards.
"We played a lot of players today and achieved eight individual wins," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I believe that to be a special team you have to win on the road against the home team's players. That is why our individual efforts were gratifying. Our mental toughness grew today."
Simon Childs, No. 84 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, defeated UNLV's Mehdi Bouras 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Calligari topped Matthew Kunkel 6-2, 6-2. No. 81 Andrew Carter picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Attila Toth. Hall beat Kasper Konyves 6-1, 7-5. Gabriel remains undefeated in the spring with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Charlie Alvarado.
In doubles action, Simon Childs and Maksimcuk beat Bouras and Luca Barlocchi 8-4. The 33rd ranked duo of Hall and Calligari topped Toth and Kunkel 8-2. Austen Childs and Gabriel teamed to defeat Alvarado and Konyves 8-5.
