The University of Louisville men's tennis team moved up three spots to No. 19 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings which were released on Jan. 26.
"I am happy that the ranking committee has moved us up, because the ultimate goal for all of us is to be number one," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I feel they were impressed with our win against a team with three nationally ranked players on it, which is like having three all-conference players in your lineup. Hopefully this is the beginning of a special season."
U of L (3-0) is coming off of a 4-3 win over then-No. 62 East Tennessee State, prior to that, the Cards registered 7-0 wins over IUPUI and Murray State.
The Cardinals have three players among top singles players in the nation, with junior Austen Childs at No. 46, sophomore Andrew Carter at No. 81 and junior Simon Childs at No. 84. Also appearing among the ranked doubles teams are Childs and Childs at No. 14 and junior Alejandro Calligari and sophomore Robert Hall at No. 33.
Louisville will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to face No. 29 LSU in the opening rounds of the National Indoors Championship Feb. 29. The rest of the Tallahassee field also includes host 13th ranked Florida State and No. 32 Wisconsin.
