BLOOMINGTON - The University of Louisville's doubles team of Alejandro Calligari and Robert Hall picked up two wins while Hall and Adam Donaldson advanced in singles as Cards completed the first day of the Hoosier Invitational.
"Robert Hall started off his sophomore year on fire," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "He won all three matches he played and looked very good today. Adam Donaldson had a pretty good day with a singles and doubles win. Tomorrow will be very physical with four matches. We'll see how well they can do in that situation."
In the IU flight, Hall defeated Morehead's Greg Anderson 6-4, 6-2, while Alejandro Calligari fell to Xavier's Bobby Deye 6-3, 6-4.
Western Michigan's Casey Cullen topped Sumit-Prakash Gupta 6-3, 6-3 in the Hoosier Flight. Donaldson picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory over IUPUI's Joel Modesitt in the Crimson Flight.
In doubles action, Calligari and Hall teamed to beat Southern Illinois' Pavlo Bruyi and Jordan Snyder 8-1 and then edged Cleveland State's Yannick and Robert Fox 8-7 (7-1). After suffering an 8-5 loss to Xavier's Zach Ervin and Chris Herron, Gupta and Donaldson rebounded with an 8-5 win over Western Michigan's Richard Canelas and Philip Diaz.
