The Volleyball Cardinals are reviving one of their oldest rivalries as the University of Kentucky will travel to Cardinal Arena for the faceoff.
The Cardinals take on Kentucky on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in Cardinal Arena.
The rivalry has resumed this year after taking a three year hiatus after the 2005 match which U of L won 3-0. The layoff means that no Cardinal or Wildcat currently on the roster has faced their traditional rival on the volleyball court. U of L sophomore Gwen Rucker faced UK last year, but her roll as starting center on the women's basketball team.
The Cats are ranked No. 16 in the AVCA Poll this week. UK (10-0) is coming off three straight wins over Portland, Purdue and Kansas State last weekend. U of L is 6-3 after the Cardinal Classic.
U of L is led by freshman Lola Arslanbekova, who was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after being the highest scoring freshman among the leagues 15 volleyball schools. She leads U of L in kills. Senior Lecia Brown and Rucker are the leading blockers. Brown is also effective on offense, ranked No. 4 in the nation in hitting percentage.
