The University of Louisville's Adam Donaldson continued his play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Summer Circuit July 11-14 at Penn State. Donaldson posted a 3-1 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 64-player singles draw and played in the doubles championship finals.
In singles action, Donaldson defeated Jarrett Siwiec 6-0, 6-1 in his first round match. He went on to beat Ricky Dove 6-4, 6-2 and fourth-seeded Benji Kendall 7-6, 1-6, 10-7 before falling to CJ Griffin 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
He teamed with Griffin in doubles and the duo reeled off three straight wins to reach the finals, where they fell 8-2 to Joseph Schafer and Sebastian Fauchet. After receiving a first round bye, Donaldson and Griffin defeated Alex Gregory and Alex Robinson 8-3. Then cruised to an 8-1 win over Coleman Crutchfield and Miles Garrigue and went on to top Bryant Salcedo and Robert Salcedo 8-3 in the semifinals.
"It is obvious that Adam's Donaldson's confidence is soaring right now," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "With a quarterfinal finish in singles beating some quality players along the way will go a long way in helping him compete this fall. He followed that up with a trip to the finals in doubles defeating the top-seeded player from Vanderbilt and his partner in the semifinals. Obviously all the work he has put in with his serve and volleys this season is paying off. He is proving he can win collegiate matches."
