Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's golf team earned the automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Regional Championship to be held in Columbus, Ohio May 7-9 at the Scarlet Course. The Cardinals earned their highest seed at No.5 in the Central Region. The bid is the third consecutive appearance for the Cardinals and their fourth overall appearance since the program was started in 2000.
Louisville won their third BIG EAST Championship last Tuesday in Tampa, Fla. The Cardinals have never only finished out of the Top 10 once this season. The Cards have finished in the Top Five of six tournaments this season, including a win at the BIG EAST Championship.
Senior Cindy LaCrosse leads the Cardinals with an impressive 71.2 stroke average. LaCrosse is currently ranked 10th in the nation and first in the region by Golfstat. Earlier this year she became the first Cardinal player to win four tournaments during their career.
Under the direction of Kelly Rothberg, the Cardinals are currently ranked 15th by Golfstat and 18th by Golf Week. They are both the highest rankings in school history.
