
Lacrosse Holds Off Cincinnati

CINCINNATI - The University of Louisville Lacrosse team started off red-hot as they scored the first five goals of the match and never lost their lead as they defeated the BIG EAST foe Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Louisville (8-5, 2-4 BIG EAST) bounced back strong after their loss to Georgetown at home to play well against Cincinnati (5-9, 0-6 BIG EAST) on their home turf. Louisville had six different scorers for the match as the team played solid as they continue to fight for their bid to the BIG EAST tournament and postseason play.
"As much as this win means I told the girls that celebration must be short lived as all focus is now on Loyola (Maryland)," said U of L head coach Kellie Young. "We started the game great and ended the game great. We continue to struggle putting together 60 minutes of solid lacrosse, but a win is a win. We are thrilled."
Lianne Bobal started the scoring rally at 29:05 followed by Emily Dashiell at 28:28. Sammy Allen scored on a free position shot at 23:38, Liz Lovejoy scored at 18:15, and Bergan Foley scored less than thirty seconds later assisted by Tara Restly. With one second to play in the first half Katie Oliverio scored assisted by Sammy Allen to spread the lead to 6-2 following UC goals by Natalie Starvaggi and Laura Simanski.
The two squads went back and forth to start the second half as UC's Lindsey Marshall scored first at 28:45 then Lianne Bobal scored her second with a goal at 27:44. Laura Simanski followed by scoring her second goal of the day at 24:41. Sammy Allen continued the trend with her second goal at 22:32 with a new score of 8-4.
In the final twenty minutes UC scored their final three goals and cut Louisville's lead to one at 8-7 at 10:29 with a second goal by Lindsey Marshall. Bergan Foley answered with her second goal at 4:08 as did Emily Dashiell with her second goal under the final minute bringing the final to 10-7.
Jen Heup finished the match with 15 saves as the defense held off the attack by the Bearcats. Louisville was able to set the tempo by winning the ball control battle 11-7.
UofL will travel to Loyala (Maryland) in Baltimore, Maryland, for its final game of the season on April 18 at 12:00 p.m. before the postseason begins.
