
Softball Tops Jacksonville 2-0

MIAMI, Fla. - - Sophomore Chelsea Bemis' two-run blast in the top of the first was all the scoring the University of Louisville softball team needed to secure a 2-0 win over Jacksonville Saturday afternoon in the Florida International.
The Cards jumped to a 2-0 lead on sophomore Chelsea Bemis' two-run shot over the left field wall. Junior Melissa Roth was hit by a pitch to lead off the game to set up Bemis' one out home run.
Louisville starter Kristen Wadwell (2-0) got the complete game shutout, limiting the Dolphins to two hits and striking out three. This marks the Cards' third shutout four games. Louisville outhit the Dolphins 5-2 in the game.
Sarah Sigrest (1-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out four. Kayla Ouellet went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Jacksonville offensively. The Dolphins drop to 1-2 on the season.
"I was pleased with the win, but we need to be able to have the same intensity day in and day out if we want to achieve our goals," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall.
Louisville (4-0) will close play at the FIU Combat Classic against Auburn Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
