
Softball Falls to Eastern Michigan 3-2

TAMPA, Fla. - - The No. 22/25 University of Louisville softball team fell to Eastern Michigan 3-2 in their final game of the USF The Game Tournament Sunday morning. The loss ends a six-game win-streak for the Cardinals.
The Eagles put up a run in the second inning when Stacie Skodinski reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on Kaylee Tolliver's double and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lauren Delapaz.
The Cards pulled ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Kristen Wadwell led off with a double, took third on Colby Wherry's sacrifice bunt and came home on Vanessa James' double. James moved to third on Melissa Roth's groundout and crossed the plate when Kristin Austin stole second.
Eastern Michigan regained the lead on Skodinski's two-run home run in the top of the sixth. Jessica Patterson reached on an error to lead off the frame to set up Skodinski's two-out shot over the right field wall, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead.
Louisville had a scoring opportunity in the sixth when Brittany York reached on a fielder's choice and Wadwell singled to place the tying run at second with two outs. Eastern Michigan starting pitcher Michelle Hletko re-entered the game and retired the next batter for the final out of the inning.
Wadwell (8-2) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out six in 5.0 innings of relief. She went 2 for 2 at the plate with a double and a run to lead the Cards offensively
Allison Scherer (1-1) picked up the win, holding the Cardinals scoreless and giving up two hits in 1.1 innings of relief. Skodinski was 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI. The Eagles improve to 3-1 on the season.
U of L (12-2) will open play at Ulmer Stadium when the Cards host the Louisville Red & Black Tournament Feb. 27-March 1. Louisville will face Miami (Ohio) on Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. IUPUI and Western Illinois are also in the tournament field.
