
Bustanoby BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year

PROVIDENCE, RI - University of Louisville goalkeeper Heather Bustanoby was named 2009 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. She was joined by Nicole Youman and Caitlin Collins on the league's first team, while Hayley Turner earned second team honors. The all-conference award winners were announced Friday evening at the league's annual awards banquet prior to the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship.
Bustanoby, a senior goalkeeper from Virginia Beach, Va., has compiled a 12-7 record,and a 1.54 goals-against average. Over 19 games, she held opponents to 28 goals on 107 shots and helped keep five opponents scoreless. The preseason BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year made a league-high 19 saves in a double overtime performance against then-No. 5 Connecticut in the teams' regular season meeting. Bustanoby is a two-time all-conference team pick and was named to the NFHCA All-West Region second team in 2008.
Youman, a junior forward from Black Mountain, Australia, has scored a career-high 12 goals and leads team with 14 assists. She is currently tied for first on school's list for single season assists. Youman was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12 and is a three-time all-BIG EAST Conference selection as well as a unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST team member. She is also a two-time NFHCA All-West Region selection.
Collins, a sophomore midfielder from Yorktown Heights, is a two-year starter and a solid member of the Cardinals defense that limited opponents to 28 goals and produced five shutouts.
Turner, a sophomore midfielder/forward from Sydney, Australia, leads the team with 41 points which places her second in conference standings. She also has a team-best 15 goals and is third in the league in that category.
The 13th ranked Cardinals (12-7, 4-2 BIG EAST) earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and will face second-seeded and seventh-ranked Connecticut in the semifinals Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
