Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team earned their third consecutive NCAA tournament bid on Monday evening. The Cardinals will travel to Bloomington on Thursday to face Indiana at 7:00 p.m. at Yeagley Field in Armstrong Stadium. Both the Cardinals and Hoosiers received at-large bids to the 48-team field.
Head Coach Ken Lolla has guided the Cardinals to their third consecutive double digit win season and their third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance for the first time in school history. Louisville won the BIG EAST Red Division after being picked to finish third in the preseason poll. The Cardinals then advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals before falling to No. 25 Notre Dame 4-3 in penalty kicks after a scoreless draw. Louisville heads to the national tournament on a six-game unbeaten streak and having been ranked in the top 25 all season, including five weeks in the top 10.
The Hoosiers are making their 23rd-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 34th overall with an at-large bid to the tournament. The Hoosiers finished the regular season with a 10-9-1 record, 3-3 in Big Ten Conference action. Indiana defeated Wisconsin, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament before falling to eventual champion Ohio State, 4-2 in the semifinals.
The Cardinals and Hoosiers met during the regular season on Oct. 21 in Cardinal Park, with the Cardinals coming away with a 4-0 victory. Indiana leads the all-time series with Louisville, 15-2. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in postseason play.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youths and university students. The winner of this match will play host to No. 12 seed Butler on Sunday.
