LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men'st tennis team will open the dual match season against Duquesne Friday at 11 a.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards will play host to Murray State Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The Cardinals are back from a weekend in Ft. Myers, Fla. at the Florida Gulf Coast Shootout. Sophomore Victor Maksimcuk and freshmen Andrew Carter, Sumit-Prakash Gupta were selected to the All-Tournament singles team after they each posted a 4-0 record on the weekend and the doubles team of sophomore Alejandro Calligari and senior Robert Rotaru also earned All-Tournament team honors with a 3-0 record.
"We feel we have a lot of momentum coming off of a great individual season," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I believe this team is ready, especially the players that have recently been named to the All-tournament team. This is going to be an exciting season."
As they enter the first dual match of the season, U of L is No. 45 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Team Rankings and have two players among the top singles rankings with sophomores Austen Childs at 48 and Simon Childs at 66. The doubles team of Rotaru and Calligari steps in at No. 44.
Carter leads the team with a 13-3 overall record with Maksimcuk and Rotaru following with 10 wins each. The top-seeded duo of Childs and Childs leads all Cardinal doubles teams with a 13-3 record.
The Cards are coming off of a 17-7 campaign in 2008 and return five starters from last year's team.
