University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Sumit-Prakash Gupta has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to continue his playing career for the Cardinals.
Gupta, a native of Etawah, India, will join U of L as a freshman in the 2008-09 season. He was ranked No. 83 in the ITF World junior rankings and was the fourth-ranked player in India. Gupta was the winner of two ITF singles tournaments, runner-up in one and a semi-finalist in six. He has also won 11 ITF tournaments in doubles.
"I am excited to add a player like Sumit-Prakash Gupta to my team," said Ecarma. "He is humble, hard-working and a `team-first' player. He represented his home country of India on its Junior Davis Cup team which included other world ranked players who are now helping their college teams tremendously. Sumit is very experienced and mature for his age and, just as importantly, he is a respectful and courteous young man. He is a great addition to our young, talented team and I can't wait to coach him."
The Cardinals finished the 2008 season with a 17-7 overall record and a fourth place finish in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament.
