LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to Mobile, Ala., to play South Alabama Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (Eastern).
"We remember South Alabama vividly because they snapped our five-year home regular season winning streak," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Their team is very talented and experienced. It will be our first outdoor match as well which poses a second challenge. Our team is still playing well and confident. Simon Childs did not drop a set in singles last weekend and has found his form. Robert Rotaru, Alejandro Calligari, and Pablo Camacho are winning as well. We will need to make some adjustments from indoor to outdoor which we will do and we will compete very hard for a win in Mobile."
The Cardinals (11-3) are coming off of a 4-3 loss to Maryland. Simon Childs, Robert Rotaru and Alejandro Calligari picked up singles points for Louisville.
Freshman Austen Chids is currently No. 42 in the ITA singles rankings. The freshman from Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand has compiled a 19-7 overall record and is 9-2 at Louisville's top seeded player.
Austen Childs and fellow freshman Simon Childs (Hillington, England) stand in at No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings. The duo dropped from their previous spot of 23 after losing two straight matches. Childs and Childs have a 10-3 record as the Cards' No. 1 doubles team. U of L is currently No. 41 in the latest ITA team rankings (March 4).
Following Sunday's match, Louisville will return home for the first outdoor match of the season at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards will face No. 24 Virginia Tech on Thursday, March 13 at 5 p.m.
