The University of Louisville will send its first -ever women's swimmer to the 2008 NCAA Finals March 20-22 at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. The Cardinals' Leslie VanWinkle, made A-cuts in both the 200- and 400-IM and will also swim the 200 back at the championship.
"The times to be invited this year were ridiculously fast this year, " said Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach. "Maybe because it is an Olympic year, no telling. That makes it even more significant and we are so proud that Leslie clinched a spot in the championship because she has worked so hard and fought through injury to make it."
Coming off a strong showing at the BIG EAST Championships, Leslie VanWinkle, who won three championships, was the Outstanding Women's Swimmer of the Meet. She has already qualified for the Olympic Trials in both the 200-meter IM and the 400-meter IM to be held this summer in Omaha.
