LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team has moved up to No. 32 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on March 25. It marks the highest the Cards have been ranked since Jan. 29, 2007 when they were No. 29.
The Cardinals started the season at No. 58 in the team rankings and have compiled a 13-4 dual match record, including an 11-1 mark at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
In addition to their team national ranking, Louisville has a singles player and a doubles team among the top 50 in the nation. Austen Chids is currently No. 41 in the ITA singles rankings. The freshman from Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand has compiled a 20-9 overall record and is 10-4 at Louisville's top seeded player. Austen Childs and fellow freshman Simon Childs (Hillington, England) stand in at No. 33 in the ITA doubles rankings. Childs and Childs have a 10-4 record as the Cards' No. 1 doubles team.
"Our team is moving in the right direction - up 27 spots this season to No. 32 is a sign of good things to come," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "This team's hard work and passion is producing exciting results. We plan to continue to move forward. I am pleased that we have solid singles and doubles rankings as well - which indicates a complete team effort."
