LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to Bloomington, Ind., to face Indiana on Tuesday, March 18.
The Cardinals (12-3) are coming off of a 5-2 win over No. 31 Virginia Tech. In that match, Austen Childs, David Simon, Viktor Maksimcuk and Alejandro Calligari picked up singles points. Freshman Austen Chids is currently No. 42 in the ITA singles rankings.
The freshman from Mt. Maunganui, New Zealand has compiled a 20-7 overall record and is 10-2 at Louisville's top seeded player.
Austen Childs and fellow freshman Simon Childs (Hillington, England) stand in at No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings. Childs and Childs have a 10-4 record as the Cards' No. 1 doubles team. U of L is currently No. 45 in the latest ITA team rankings (March 11).
Indiana enters the match with an 11-3 record and ranked No. 38 in the nation. The Hoosiers recently had a three-match winning streak snapped by then-No. 19 Texas A&M.
"Indiana is one of the hottest teams in the midwest," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "It is commonly known that Bloomington is a tough place to win a tennis match. I feel our team realizes that and will prepare as well as we can. I have a lot of respect for Coach Randy Blumendahl, but I also believe in my team as well. I expect that every court will be hard fought and the match will come down a couple of important points. Hopefully, these tennis Cardinals will understand the situation and execute."
Following the Indiana match, the Cards will continue their road swing as the visit No. 20 Texas A&M.
