The Cardinals tacked on the final two runs in the fifth inning when Rebecca Saksefski delivered a pinch-hit single and came home on Wadwell's double. Roesel stepped up to the plate and delivered an RBI triple for the 7-0 final score.
Starter Kassie Stanfill (3-2) scattered three hits and fanned seven to get the complete game shutout win. Five Cardinals had two hits in the game. Cunningham went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs. "I was very happy with our offense today, they did a great job on capitalizing on opportunities and attacking the ball with power," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "Kassie Stanfill threw a really nice game - probably her best so far this year - she really came out on fire. I was also excited for Kristen Wadwell hitting her first career home run. We knew she had the potential and she was finally able to hit one out."
The Cardinals (10-8) will host No. 9 Michigan, Minnesota and Miami (Ohio) in the Louisville Tournament March 14-16. U of L will face Miami at 2 p.m. and Minnesota at 4 p.m. on Friday. Michigan and Minnesota will get the tournament started at 12 p.m. Friday.
