
Lacrosse Defeats Lafayette 17-12

EASTON, Pa. - First-year attacker Bergan Foley scored five goals as the University of Louisville lacrosse team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 17-12 win over host Lafayette Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals scored 23 seconds into the game when Foley connected on a pass from Lianne Bobal. Lafayette's Kristen Ruminski evened the score four minutes later, but that was the last time the Leopards would have a chance to take the lead as Louisville went on a run, scoring six goals in less than seven minutes. The Cards went on to build a 12-6 halftime lead.
Foley scored her fourth goal of the afternoon for the Cardinals as the second half opened. Lafayette's Maria Drehwing followed suit by launching the ball into the net with 24 minutes remaining in the game. Louisville began its second scoring run of the game, netting four unanswered goals in 12 minutes, but it was Lafayette who would have the final run of the game as the Leopards closed the half with five goals in eight minutes.
In addition to Foley's five goals, Liz Lovejoy added three for the Cardinals. Foley, a native of Huntington Valley, Pa., leads the Cards with 24 goals. Bobal dished out two assists in the game.
The Cards had only 10 turnovers on the day while Lafayette finished with 19, and U of L was 11-of-12 on clear attempts against the Leopards. The Cards also controlled 18 of 32 draws and picked up 21 ground balls.
Maddy Booth and Maria Drehwing paced Lafayette with three goals apiece. The Leopards drop to 0-5 on the season.
The Cards will continue their spring break road trip when they travel to Rutgers Friday and Villanova Sunday.
